Since his arrival to St. Petersburg in 2009, Will Thomas Scecina has been a top call freelance guitarist, bassist, lap steel guitarist, and vocalist in a wide variety of musical settings and genres, performing as an original singer-songwriter, solo ceremony guitarist, wedding and corporate band guitarist and vocalist, and as a touring band member with internationally known artist and songwriter Mandy Harvey of America’s Got Talent fame. Will has had the opportunity to work with many talented bands, artists, and talent agencies throughout Florida, including the award winning Bay Kings and Phase5 bands, Hank Lane Music, genre-bending original group Anyan Dévery, Tampa Bay Idol winner Samantha Leigh, youtube sensation and artist Macy Kate, and world-class jazz guitarist and USF professor LaRue Nickelson. Will has also performed all throughout the United States and internationally with Mandy Harvey, including at Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center and New York City’s Central Park. Currently, Will is knee deep in the weeds self-producing his debut vocal album as an original artist and songwriter.
Will comes from a long line of public school educators. Both of his parents were respected and revered teachers in the New York State school system before they retired after long and fulfilling careers. This unique perspective, along with extensive experience as a freelance musician and vocalist, has given Will a highly effective vantage point from which to evaluate and foster musical development in a creative, yet practical manner. Will’s specialties as an instructor include guitar, bass, and the application of music theory and harmony through ear training and performance. His favorite musical genres to teach include jazz, pop, rock, and blues.
Will received his B.A. in Music from Hunter College in New York City, where he studied jazz and classical guitar and music theory. He grew up in the fertile music scene of New York’s historic Hudson River Valley. When not performing, producing, or teaching, you can find Will biking, kayaking, and cooking with his lovely wife and jewelry artist Julie Dye.
